What happened

Two members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed while attempting to defuse explosive devices (EO) reportedly left behind by Israeli forces after recent attacks. The incident occurred in Khorramabad and was confirmed by Iranian news agencies, who cited IRGC statements. This follows a series of hostilities between Iran and Israel that began on 13 June 2025 and resulted in significant casualties on both sides — over 900 in Iran and 28 in Israel — before a ceasefire was enacted on 24 June. The deaths of the two IRGC members are part of the broader aftermath of these clashes, which included damage to infrastructure and loss of military personnel. Iran has since reopened its airspace and resumed public ceremonies, including a recent appearance by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
