An explosion in Kano has killed five people and left an unknown number injured. The Nigerian government immediately imposed a ban on the purchase and import of scrap materials from northeast Nigeria, as the device was hidden in scrap metal.
The Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Umaru, said investigations showed that the explosives used in the attack were hidden in scrap metal believed to have come from the northeast, a region affected by Boko Haram activities.
The explosion, which occurred earlier this week, devastated a scrap metal processing site in the Hotoro area, causing panic and extensive damage in the neighborhood.
