What happened

In response to reports of widespread diarrheal illness across multiple districts of Odisha, India, health officials in Sambalpur district have increased monitoring efforts and initiated urgent actions to avert a potential outbreak of this waterborne ailment. To date, no confirmed cases of diarrhea have been documented within the district. As part of preventive strategies, healthcare personnel conduct household visits to detect initial indications, such as emesis, diarrhea, and jaundice, and to report any potential cases. The Department of Public Health and Engineering, the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) department and WATCO have been directed to perform routine water quality assessments and provide bleaching powder in susceptible regions. Furthermore, the Food Safety Officer has been instructed to conduct regular audits of food vendors and dining establishments throughout the city to reduce the likelihood of contamination.
