What happened

Authorities in the State of North-Rhine Westphalia have confirmed a case of African Swine Fever (ASF) in a wild boar. The boar was found dead in the district of Olpe, and further suspected cases are being investigated. The presence of the disease was confirmed by the National Reference Laboratory for ASF at the Friedrich Loeffler Institute (FLI). However, the institute has yet to determine the ASF virus type involved. Meanwhile, state authorities in North-Rhine Westphalia have implemented several protective and control measures, including the search for further dead wild boars. Local pig farmers have also been advised to increase vigilance and review biosecurity measures.
