On Monday, May 19, the Farmington Hills and Livonia fire departments responded to an emergency on the Middlebelt and Eight Mile roads. A semi-truck leaked ferric chloride about a quarter of a mile from the intersection on Middlebelt Road. The substance is mainly used in water and metal surface treatment. The road was promptly closed, and the Western Wayne Hazardous Materials Response Team was called to help clean it up. According to Livonia Fire Deputy Chief Wade Clay, there were no health concerns for the public, and no injuries were reported.
