It has been reported that a suspected case of cholera has resulted in the death of a 48-year-old resident of Thalavady in Kuttanad, Alappuzha district, Kerala, India. The individual was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Tiruvalla at the time of their death. The patient was admitted to a local hospital with symptoms of fever and diarrhoea before being transferred to Tiruvalla Hospital as his condition deteriorated. According to reports from district health sources, the blood sample tested positive for cholera. However, stool culture results are pending confirmation. Consequently, the case has been classified as suspected cholera. Despite the absence of official confirmation, health authorities have implemented precautionary measures similar to those in a confirmed outbreak. These measures include sanitisation and monitoring boreholes and water sources to prevent the potential spread of the disease.
