What happened

The Danish government is considering lifting a 40-year-old ban on nuclear power to enhance its country’s energy security. It was revealed on Tuesday (May 13) by Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard during an interview with the daily Politiken. Aagaard pointed out the rising prominence of new nuclear power technologies like small modular reactors, dismissing the idea of a return to the old nuclear systems banned in the 1980s. He also confirmed the intention of the government to continue its green transition through solar and wind power. One day after the interview, Aagaard appeared in parliament to answer questions from opposition parties about the possible revival of nuclear power.
