Speaking on behalf of HRH Princess Sumaya bin El Hassan, President of the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) and Chair of the Board of Trustees at Princess Sumaya University for Technology, Arafat Awajan, vice president of RSS for Scientific Research, officially launched on Sunday (May 11) a national training program on nuclear security ecosystem and culture. The program, realized by the RSS in partnership with the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), aims to build a robust national nuclear security culture through targeted youth engagement. Princess Sumaya’s speech, delivered by Awajan, stated that such an initiative reflects the vision of the Hashemite monarchy for Jordan, investing in the intellectual capacity of its people. Youth empowerment through scientific education is particularly relevant for overcoming challenges and building a prosperous future. After the princess’ address, Ziyad Saaida, Chairman of the EMRC Board of Commissioners, said the new program shows the commission’s commitment to fostering a national nuclear security culture based on awareness and high-quality training.
The program will offer specialized training courses for university students on radiation safety, legislative and regulatory frameworks, radiological protection, and emergency response systems. It aims to create a generation of well-informed and capable Jordanian youth, fostering a sustainable national culture of nuclear security that ensures the safe and responsible use of nuclear technology.
