What happened

In a statement by its Director of Public Relations and Information, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Army to counter terrorism and other security threats. In the statement, delivered by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the NAF looks especially to the seamless integration of manned and unmanned aerial platforms, enhanced communication systems, and real-time data links to boost situational awareness and enable faster precision-based decision-making. Further details were provided by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, during a lecture at the Army War College in Abuja. Abubakar said that the seamless integration of manned and unmanned air assets will help to enhance the NAF’s Concept of Operations (CONOPS) and achieve decisive airpower effects. It will also ensure “greater agility and responsiveness” in joint operations with the Army.
Abubakar stressed that the NAF remains committed to leading air-to-ground integration to ensure coordinated and effective battlefield successes. He highlighted the tangible gains made in ongoing missions in the North-east and the North-west during 2024, with hundreds of sorties and many terrorists killed. According to him, these achievements prove the benefits of joint operations in Nigeria’s counter-insurgency strategy. He concluded his intervention by calling for “a unified operational culture marked by collaboration, agility, and technological innovation” to protect the nation.
