During a territorial inspection conducted by the Carabinieri Forestali in the Municipality of Monteferrante, Province of Chieti, bordering Alto Molise, a substantial amount of discarded electrical cables, including copper cables and sheath remnants, was found improperly abandoned on pasture land. This operation was the result of a thorough investigation carried out in conjunction with the Carabinieri station of Castiglione Messer Marino, focusing on environmental protection. Subsequent inquiries have verified that the materials originated from the decommissioning of cable ducts utilized for connecting wind farms to the regional energy park and were unlawfully transferred to unauthorized third parties. The discovered materials were impounded and placed under the responsibility of a site manager for appropriate disposal, adhering to current regulations governing the management of special non-hazardous waste through certified procedures and disposal at authorized facilities. A principal offender, engaged in the illicit processing and trade of stolen copper, was apprehended and subsequently detained at a correctional facility in Vasto (Chieti). The aforementioned duties involved the improper handling of regulated waste, an unlawful activity that poses a tangible hazard to the soil, water supplies, and indigenous ecosystems.
