On Friday, May 2, a chemical spill occurred at the intersection of Main Street and Taylor Street in Mount Victory, Ohio. The Southeast Hardin Northwest Union Joint Fire District intervened and identified the substance as Afrazine, a chemical used in agriculture. The area was isolated, and the firefighters, together with the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, worked to contain the spill. The chemical entered village storm drains due to heavy rain and flowed onto the streets, but crews placed floating chemical absorbent booms downstream before the rainfall to mitigate the release. Later, they were joined by an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) hazmat team that started removing the substance. The EPA said there was no risk to human health. The situation is monitored by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
