What happened

Bulacan authorities have increased their efforts to curb the spread of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) in the province. According to data from the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU) of the Provincial Health Office-Public Health (PHO-PH), Bulacan registered 640 suspected HFMD cases between January 1 and February 22, 2025. This number is 1003% higher than that reported in the same period of last year (58 cases). Governor Daniel Fernando said that the Provincial Government is taking steps to safeguard the health of citizens, collaborating with health workers and community members to curb the spread of the disease. The PHO-PH has strengthened coordination with health centers to ensure the prompt monitoring of reported HFMD cases and has mobilized community volunteers to conduct fever surveillance and early detection practices. The office has also recommended measures like cleaning up drives and disinfecting key public areas such as schools, playgrounds, and markets. Localized health information campaigns have been intensified to raise awareness about the outbreak and prevention measures. PHO-PH is also working to provide adequate medical supplies to health centers, including antiviral treatments and pain relievers to help manage HFMD cases.
