In the opinion of Dominican Minister of Agriculture Limber Cruz, the presence of avian influenza in the Dominican Republic does not constitute a significant threat to the nation’s poultry sector. This assertion is based on the implementation of rigorous preventive measures by authorities and poultry farmers, which have been implemented to prevent the entry of the virus into the country. To ensure the security of domestic poultry production, the entry of poultry products from regions affected by avian influenza has been prohibited at ports and airports in the Dominican Republic. To guarantee the satisfaction of domestic requirements, Cruz observed that egg production had increased by more than 100 million units per month, thus surpassing the levels recorded in previous years.
