The Romagna Local Health Authority has reported a suspected case of dengue fever in Cesena, Italy, involving a man who has recently returned from Peru. The patient exhibited symptoms consistent with the disease, including high fever, headache, joint pain, and skin rash, and was admitted to the Infectious Diseases Unit at Morgagni-Pierantoni Hospital in Forlì on 10 July, where diagnostic tests are currently underway. Following the report, the Municipality of Cesena activated a prevention and containment protocol, ordering an extraordinary disinfestation campaign. Operations began on 11 July and will continue for three consecutive nights within a 100-metre radius of the patient’s residence on Via Chiaramonti. The campaign will also cover nearby public areas, including the Serravalle Gardens. It is the first suspected case of dengue reported in the Romagna region during the summer of 2025. While health authorities emphasise that the risk of local transmission remains low, they urge residents to monitor symptoms and cooperate with ongoing preventive measures.
