What happened

At least seven civilians were killed and several others injured on July 2, 2025, following a fuel tanker explosion in the town of Jibrin, located in Syria’s central Hama province.
According to the Syrian state broadcaster al-Ikhbariya, the blast occurred when a fuel tanker caught fire, causing a deadly explosion that destroyed nearby buildings and scattered debris across the area. Emergency teams, including civil defense units and ambulances, quickly responded to the scene to contain the blaze and rescue survivors. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities have launched an investigation.
In a separate incident the same day, multiple explosions were reported near Al Fu’ah, in Syria’s northwestern Idlib province. These were believed to have been caused by an overheated ammunition depot, reportedly triggered by extreme summer temperatures. No casualties were immediately reported from that blast.
Both regions have experienced instability due to Syria’s prolonged conflict, though it is unclear whether either incident was connected to ongoing military activity.
