Security forces in Manipur conducted a major coordinated operation across multiple hill districts, seizing over 200 firearms and 30 improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The raids took place between Thursday night and Friday morning in Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel, and Churachandpur.
Acting on specific intelligence, joint teams from the Manipur Police, Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and Central Armed Police Forces launched simultaneous operations. The cache included 21 INSAS rifles, 11 AK-series rifles, 26 SLRs, 2 sniper rifles, 3 carbines, 17 .303 rifles, 2 MA rifles, and 3 M79 grenade launchers. Dozens of country-made guns, pistols, and makeshift “Pumpi” weapons were also recovered.
Explosive materials recovered included 30 IEDs, 10 hand grenades, 9 Pumpi charges, and 2 lathode grenades. Authorities said the weapons were likely stockpiled for use in ongoing ethnic and insurgent tensions in the region.
Manipur Police Additional DGP Lhari Dorjee Lhatoo hailed the operation as a critical success in restoring law and order. He urged the public to cooperate and report any suspicious activities to support ongoing peace and stabilization efforts in the violence-affected state.
