In recent days, two separate jihadist raids have hit Northern Nigeria. On July 2, the jihadist group Lakurawa raided the village of Kwallajiya (Sokoto state), shooting indiscriminately at the residents and killing 17 people. According to local sources, the incursion was a response to the killing of three jihadists in a previous failed action. The day before, 11 other people were killed by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the town of Malam Fatori (Borno State). As declared by an officer from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF), jihadists fired at a camp for internally displaced people, then withdrew. Twenty people are reportedly injured and treated at Bosso hospital. Since 2009, due to the jihadist insurgency in Nigeria’s northeast, over 40,000 people have died and two million have been displaced.
