On July 2, 2025, Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri delivered the first of two Multipurpose Combat Ships (PPA class), KRI Brawijaya (320), to the Indonesian Navy during a ceremony at the Muggiano shipyard in La Spezia.
The event highlighted the growing strategic cooperation between Italy and Indonesia in the naval defense sector. Attendees included Fincantieri Chairman Biagio Mazzotta, Admiral Muhammad Ali (Chief of Staff, Indonesian Navy), Ambassador Junimart Girsang, Admiral Enrico Credendino (Chief of Staff, Italian Navy), and Admiral Giacinto Ottaviani, Italy’s National Armaments Director.
KRI Brawijaya is the first of two PPAs built for Indonesia, followed by KRI Prabu Siliwangi (321). These ships will become the largest combat units in the Indonesian fleet, reinforcing maritime security in the Indo-Pacific.
The PPA is a highly flexible platform capable of frontline combat, maritime patrol, SAR, and civil protection operations. It can deploy RHIBs via lateral cranes or a stern launch ramp. The rapid delivery of the vessel underscores Fincantieri’s efficiency and strengthens its partnership with the Indonesian Ministry of Defense.
