What happened

A civilian was seriously injured following the detonation of an improvised explosive device (IED) in a wooded area near Pegdapalli village in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district. The incident occurred while the individual was collecting forest produce. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was initially treated at a local health centre before being transferred to Jagdalpur hospital. According to the authorities, the IED was most likely planted by Maoist insurgents, who frequently use such devices along forest trails frequently used by security forces during anti-insurgency operations. Similar incidents have affected civilians in the past, highlighting the ongoing security risks faced by local populations in areas affected by Naxalite activity.
