What happened

On 1 July 2025, Kanpur and Agra Airports in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh (UP) received bomb threats via email. These were later confirmed to be false alarms. These alerts followed a similar incident at Gorakhpur Airport and coincided with the official visit of President Droupadi Murmu. In Kanpur, the email referenced the presence of ‘heavy explosives’ within the terminal. Law enforcement, assisted by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and canine units, evacuated the premises and conducted a thorough search, but found no suspicious material. No suspicious material was found. A formal complaint was lodged at Chakeri Police Station. Agra Airport also received a similar anonymous email. The authorities immediately activated emergency protocols and filed a report at Shahganj Police Station. The cybercrime unit launched an investigation to trace the source of the message. Officials described the threats as part of a coordinated series of hoaxes, prompting reinforced surveillance across key transport hubs in the region.
