What happened

Qantas has reported a cyber attack involving a third-party platform used by one of its contact centres. The airline detected unusual activity on the system and has launched an investigation. The platform contains service records for around six million customers, and Qantas believes a significant portion of the data may have been stolen.
An initial review confirmed that the compromised data includes some customers’ names, email addresses, phone numbers, birth dates, and frequent flyer numbers. Credit card details, financial information, and passport data were not stored in the affected system.
Authorities, including the Australian Cyber Security Centre and the Australian Federal Police, have been notified. Cybersecurity firm CyberCX is assisting with the response and suggested the breach shows signs of involvement by the hacker group known as Scattered Spider.
