In late June 2025, Glasgow City Council was hit by a cyber incident that disrupted several online services. The breach, discovered by IT supplier CGI on third-party-managed servers, may have involved the theft of customer data. While the nature of the attack is still unclear, the council is assuming that data linked to web forms may have been exfiltrated. As a precaution, affected servers were taken offline, impacting day-to-day services. Residents are advised to be cautious if contacted by anyone claiming to be from the council and to report suspicious activity to Police Scotland. The incident follows a major 2024 ransomware attack on the NHS in nearby Dumfries and Galloway.
