What happened

A major industrial accident struck the Sigachi Industries plant on the morning of June 30, 2025, in Pashamylaram, located in the Sangareddy district of Telangana, southern India. A powerful explosion, followed by a large fire, ripped through part of the chemical-pharmaceutical facility while approximately 140 workers were inside. Preliminary reports suggest the blast occurred in a chemical reactor, although the exact cause is still under investigation by a technical commission appointed by the local government. The toll is devastating: at least 39 people have died, many of them burned beyond recognition and requiring genetic identification. Another 34 workers were injured, some critically.
Rescue operations are still underway, and the entire facility has been sealed off. The incident is one of the worst industrial disasters in the region in recent years and has reignited concerns over safety standards in high-risk chemical manufacturing plants.
