What happened

So far this year, health authorities in the Dominican Republic have recorded 128 cases of dengue fever, with Espaillat province accounting for 10.9% of cases. Other provinces with a high incidence of the disease are La Vega and Puerto Plata. There have also been 435 malaria cases, with San Juan and Azua as endemic areas maintaining active outbreaks of the disease. Indeed, 50% of cases have been recorded in Azua, followed by San Juan with 41% and Elias Piňa with 6%. Most patients are women of Dominican origin between 20 and 29 years old.
During epidemiological week 24, the Doctor Defilló National Public Health Reference Laboratory processed 70 respiratory samples. The analysis confirmed the circulation of different viruses, including Influenza A (H3N2), Influenza B (Victoria lineage), and SARS-CoV-2. The positivity rate for influenza was 12.9%, while for other respiratory viruses was 4.3%. For respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), no positive cases were recorded.
