The appeals chamber of the Bosnian state court has confirmed the verdict sentencing Mirza Kapic to four-and-a-half years in prison for planning a terrorist attack against a mosque in Zenica in 2023. Kapic was found guilty of planning the attack with accomplices on the Telegram and Trema communications apps. According to the court, he intended to cause mass panic and destabilise society. He has been sentenced not only to jail but also to mandatory psychiatric treatment. Defence lawyer Lejla Babic said she would challenge the ruling, considering it a violation of the right to a fair trial.
Kapic has already been convicted in a separate case to twenty-two months of prison for travelling to Syria in 2013 to fight for the so-called Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.
