The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued an urgent recall for a cosmetic product sold at retailers like Superdrug and Farmfoods. The product is a body spray called Soulcal & Co’s Body Mist and has been marked as presenting a “serious chemical risk”, due to it containing the chemical butylphenylmethylpropional (BMHCA/lilial). The use of this chemical is forbidden in cosmetics because it may harm the reproductive system and cause skin sensitisation. The batches recalled are those sold at Farmfoods and involve five fragrances from the Soulcal & Co line: Raspberry & Lotus Blossom, Mango & Passion Fruit, Apple & Waterlily, Coco Plum & Jacaranda, and Beach Rose & Coconut Water.
In a statement, the OPSS said that affected products from end users have been directly recalled by the manufacturer. However, customers still having them should not use them and return them to the seller for a full refund. Meanwhile, Farmfoods has reportedly removed the sprays from its site and told customers who have previously bought the items to avoid using them.
