What happened

According to local security sources, an attack on military bases in northern Nigeria resulted in the deaths of at least seventeen soldiers. Furthermore, four soldiers suffered gunshot injuries and are currently undergoing medical care. Security sources indicate that armed assailants initiated unprovoked assaults on army forward operating bases situated in the Kwanar Dutse Mariga and Boka areas of Niger State, as well as another base in the adjacent Kaduna State. All seventeen fatalities occurred at the Kwanar Dutse Mariga base. The Nigerian Army has verified the occurrence of these attacks, though specific details were not provided. However, the Army reported that combat persisted for several hours. Counterattacks were initiated by the Nigerian Army, resulting in the deaths of several assailants. While the identity of the attackers remains unconfirmed, it is presumed that the attacks were perpetrated by Boko Haram militants and armed groups active in the northwest region, who are known to conduct kidnappings for ransom and target security personnel.
