In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry has condemned the “treacherous terrorist attack” against a mosque in Niger’s southwestern village of Manda. The attack happened on Friday, June 20, and has allegedly been conducted by Islamic State-affiliated militants. They ambushed worshippers on their way to the mosque and killed at least 71 people. The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents across Niger and other Sahel countries in recent weeks.
In its statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry offered condolences to the victims’ relatives and urged the international community to step up efforts to fight terrorist groups in the Sahel.
