What happened

Seventeen people across 13 US states have been infected with the same strain of Listeria linked to certain chicken fettuccine meals produced by FreshRealm. The illnesses occurred between July 24, 2024, and May 10, 2025. Sixteen people have been hospitalized, and three deaths have been reported in Illinois, Michigan, and Texas. One case related to pregnancy resulted in a fetal loss. On June 17, 2025, FreshRealm recalled the affected chicken fettuccine meals. These products were sold in the refrigerated sections of Kroger and Walmart under the Marketside and Home Chef brand names. Frozen meals are not included in the recall.

Listeria can cause severe illness, particularly in older adults, pregnant individuals, and people with weakened immune systems. Authorities urge citizens to avoid consuming the recalled products and to clean surfaces that may have come into contact with them.
