During the conference Tolerability of anti-infective drugs and co-morbidities associated with HIV infection, scheduled to take place in Milan on 19 and 20 June 2025, the results of recent studies on the trend of HIV infections in Italy will be discussed. In 2023, the number of diagnoses increased by 24% compared to the previous year, from 1,888 infections in 2022 to 2,349. The growth is predominantly observed among individuals aged 40 to 49 years, with transmission primarily occurring within the heterosexual population. Lombardy has been the most affected region, with 491 registered cases, which is approximately one in five of the national total. The objectives to be pursued in the forthcoming meeting are twofold: firstly, the enhancement of care for individuals living with HIV, with particular emphasis on personalised therapeutic pathways; and secondly, an exploration of the challenges posed by antimicrobial resistance, a factor that is progressively becoming paramount to the management of chronic infections.
