What happened

The Government of Andhra Pradesh, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, has initiated the STOP Diarrhoea Campaign 2025 to decrease the prevalence of diarrhoea among children and avert associated fatalities. According to local media reports, the campaign is scheduled for execution from 16 June to 31 July 2025, targeting more than 345,600 children under five years of age throughout the state. The campaign’s purpose is to encourage preventative measures, prompt treatment, and enhanced hygiene practices, particularly within underserved communities. Principal community-based activities include the distribution of pharmaceuticals, such as zinc tablets, through door-to-door outreach, water sanitation initiatives involving reservoir purification and water quality assessment, and ensuring that all children who meet the criteria receive the Rotavirus vaccine. Standardized protocols for early detection and treatment will be implemented for healthcare professionals, complemented by training programs in schools that emphasize the importance of proper handwashing techniques.
