In the wake of the Piacenza Local Health Authority’s report on a suspected case of dengue virus infection in the city, the Municipality has issued an urgent directive for the initiation of an extraordinary disinfestation programme. This initiative aims to combat the spread of the tiger mosquito, the vector for the aforementioned viruses. The case is awaiting laboratory confirmation, which should arrive in the days immediately following the report by the competent health authorities. The intervention plan includes a larvicidal treatment in the public drains of the affected areas for three consecutive nights, accompanied by door-to-door operations on private properties for the removal of larval outbreaks. During the treatment process, it will be crucial to observe all the precautions indicated to protect public health. To this end, citizens are advised to stay indoors, close doors and windows, shelter pets and sensitive objects, and refrain from exposing food or linen to the outside. Additionally, the use of air exchange systems should be suspended, and no products from vegetable gardens in the specified areas should be consumed. The municipal ordinance will be revoked if laboratory tests exclude the presence of the virus in the sample examined.
