What happened

A Salmonella outbreak linked to Emek-brand pistachio cream has sickened four people in Minnesota and New Jersey. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are currently investigating the multistate outbreak, urging shops and restaurants to stop selling the product with a use-by date of Oct. 19, 2026. Three of the four reported cases ate the pistachio cream at the same restaurant in Minnesota. The FDA said it is working to determine where the affected pistachio cream batch was sold in the United States and if other lots or products were impacted. The agency did not disclose which restaurant served the contaminated product. Meanwhile, the CDC urged people to seek medical attention if they develop Salmonella symptoms after eating pistachio cream. These symptoms are generally diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. Most people recover from a Salmonella infection without treatment after a few days. However, young children, adults 65 and older, and immunocompromised people may experience more severe illnesses that require medical treatment or even hospitalization.
