What happened

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, have entered into a new cooperative agreement to provide sustainable financing aimed at expanding vaccination coverage and strengthening health systems in the countries where they operate. The partnership has been established to provide support for the development of robust health policies and foster climate resilience in the 32 countries that comprise the Asia-Pacific region. The ADB is increasing its lending capacity by an additional $100 billion over the next decade, while GAVI is entering a new strategic phase to assist countries in transitioning to self-sustaining financing for vaccination, ensuring long-term preparedness for future pandemics. GAVI’s strategy is to combine the strengths of development banks and global health institutions to ensure the long-term sustainability of immunisation programmes, protect the progress that has already been made, and reach millions more children with life-saving vaccines.
