What happened

Somali police arrested several suspected Al-Shabaab members on Thursday after a house explosion in Mogadishu’s Dayniile district exposed a bomb-making operation. The blast, which injured the suspects, occurred as they were reportedly assembling explosives in Barwaaqo neighbourhood. Residents heard two blasts before police arrived and secured the area. Locals had long viewed the property with suspicion, though it had not been previously searched. The incident highlights ongoing efforts by Somali authorities to disrupt Al-Shabaab’s urban networks. Despite increased security in Mogadishu, the group continues to use improvised explosives in attacks. An investigation is ongoing, and the district administration has yet to comment.
