What happened

Arizona health authorities have confirmed the state’s first measles cases of the year. They are four Navajo County residents who were not vaccinated and had a recent history of international travel. The Navajo County Public Health Services District said all four people were exposed to the virus through a single source. Meanwhile, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment reported two new measles cases, one of them a child under the age of five who had received one dose of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. The child and his family had recently traveled to Ontario, which is one of the hot spots in Canada’s ongoing measles outbreak. The other case is an unvaccinated adult from Arapahoe County linked to the recent outbreak at Denver International Airport.
Texas also continues to report new measles cases, though the pace of infections is slowing. The Texas Department of State Health Services confirmed two additional cases, raising the total number in the state to 744. The number of counties with ongoing transmission is four: Dawson, Gaines, Lamar, and Lubbock. Meanwhile, Kansas health authorities have reported one more case in an outbreak in the southwestern part of the state, raising the total state number to 72.
