What happened

A cargo ship named “WAN HAI 503”, flagged in Singapore, caught fire and experienced multiple explosions on Monday, June 9, about 144 km off the coast of Kerala, India, while en route to Mumbai. The incident forced 18 out of 22 crew members to jump into the Arabian Sea, where they were later rescued by emergency teams. The fire caused 40 containers to fall overboard, and the vessel was reported to be adrift but not sinking. The cause of the explosions and the nature of the cargo remains unknown.
