South Korean authorities have recalled two products as part of an investigation into a foodborne outbreak. They did not provide details on the outbreak. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said Salmonella was detected in “High Calcium Strawberry Cream Roll Cake” and “High Calcium Wheat Chocolate Banana Bread.” Both products are manufactured by Mother Goose and distributed by Foodmus. The recalled batches of the 50-gram cake have an expiry date of October 12, 2025, while that of the 22-gram banana bread batches is September 21, 2025.
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency’s Public Health Weekly Report, there were 600 waterborne and foodborne outbreaks in 2023, with almost 12,700 people sick. The data comes from the Summer Waterborne and Foodborne Infectious Disease Emergency Prevention System. Most incidents occurred in restaurants, followed by schools and childcare facilities.
