In Sri Lanka, the Ministry of Education has issued special instructions to prevent the spread of dengue and chikungunya in schools. These new guidelines have been issued in addition to the previously released Circulars 2010/22 and 30/2017 to maintain a safe and mosquito-free environment in and around education facilities. Each school should also prepare and implement appropriate internal measures to ensure that premises remain mosquito-free during educational activities. The guidelines also state that if mosquito breeding grounds are found within school premises during an inspection, legal action may be taken against the principal of the institution.
The Ministry has notified the instructions to the principals of all government and government-approved private schools, Deans of National Colleges of Education, and heads of other educational institutions and provincial offices.
