What happened

A case of dengue was diagnosed in a woman originally from Livorno, Italy, aged around 30 years, who had recently returned from a stay in Southeast Asia. The woman underwent specific tests that confirmed the diagnosis of the disease. The patient is in good health and was discharged from the emergency room of the city health facility with clinical indications to follow at home. Following receipt of the report on the case, the local health authority requested that the Municipality of Livorno carry out a precautionary disinfestation intervention in the vicinity of the woman’s home and within the hospital premises. This was done to mitigate the risk of triggering an autochthonous transmission of arbovirosis.
