What happened

According to Turkish security sources, an operative affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) militant group has been apprehended on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. This capture was the result of a collaborative intelligence operation (IBO) executed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MİT). The individual, identified as Ozgur Altun and codenamed ‘Abu Yasir Al Turki,’ is believed to be the most senior Turkish member of IS and is alleged to have been significantly involved in the organization’s media and logistics operations. Furthermore, he is accused of orchestrating attacks targeting concert venues and other civilian locations in both Turkey and Europe. Following the exchange of intelligence, the ISI received information regarding Altun’s presence in Afghanistan and his intention to cross into Pakistan. After his arrest, he was deported to Türkiye for further inquiry. This apprehension is indicative of the robust bilateral relationship between Pakistan and Turkey, which seeks to enhance collaboration in defense and security matters, as affirmed during the recent visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Istanbul.
