The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) arrested a suspected Russian agent in Kyiv who was preparing terrorist attacks against members of the Defence Forces. The man was supposed to plant explosives under the vehicles of Ukrainian soldiers and officers, which were later to be remotely detonated by Russian special services. The suspected agent is an unemployed Kyiv resident who was allegedly recruited by Russian services through a Telegram channel. Before tasking him with the job, Russian recruiters tested him by making him commit several arsons in the Ukrainian capital. He later received instructions from his supervisor on how to make an IED and blow up a car.
At the time of his arrest, the man was setting up remote access for the Russian special services to two phones with IEDs, through which they planned to activate the explosives. He had also received a device to record the explosive attacks in real-time. He now faces up to 12 years in prison, but he is actively cooperating with Ukrainian authorities and giving evidence against members of the Russian services.
