Recent intelligence reports have revealed that Pakistan’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested 34 individuals suspected of involvement in terrorist activities during 415 intelligence-gathering operations (IBOs) conducted across Punjab province. A particular focus has been placed on the regions of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Jhelum, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Narowal, Jhelum, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, Bukhara, Kasur and Nankana Sahib. These proscribed organisations, which have been deemed a threat to the country’s stability and security, are the subject of an ongoing investigation by the CTD. According to a CTD spokesperson, two individuals suspected of affiliation with Fitna al Khawarij were apprehended in Lahore, and explosives, currency, and mobile phones were found in their possession. As stated in the official statement, in May 2025, the Punjab Police Department successfully conducted over 5,000 combing operations in cooperation with local police and security agencies, resulting in the arrest of 604 suspects. The aforementioned statement further revealed that the terrorists had meticulously planned to attack significant edifices in various urban centres. It was also disclosed that comprehensive investigations are currently being conducted.
