Cuban health authorities have reported an ongoing hepatitis A outbreak in Cárdenas, Matanzas. The outbreak involves at least two parts of the city, the 13 de Marzo neighborhood and La Marina, raising concerns among local healthcare professionals. Dr. Rosangel Fernández Ruiz, the general director of Health in the area, confirmed the detection of several cases, although she did not specify how many. She urged residents to follow sanitary measures to contain the spread of the disease. These measures include not sharing utensils such as plates and cups, washing hands with soap and water before eating, and chlorinating drinking water.
The increase in hepatitis A cases in Cuba is linked to the consumption of water contaminated with feces. Lack of access to safe drinking water and poor hygiene conditions contribute to the spread of the disease, threatening to overwhelm local health services.
