What happened

The House of Representatives called on the Federal Government to take immediate action against an escalating cholera outbreak in Lagos State which has already claimed several lives. The call came after the House adopted a motion that appealed for urgent intervention to prevent further deaths in the affected communities. The House directed the Federal Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to immediately deploy disease surveillance teams and essential medical supplies to the impacted communities in Badagry West, particularly in Zongo. It also asked the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development to immediately provide relief materials such as potable water and improved sanitation infrastructure. Recognising the role of power supply for healthcare services, lawmakers also urged the Federal Ministry of Power and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to restore electricity to the Badagry West area, citing its critical importance in reactivating water supply systems and health centres.
