On Tuesday, May 20, a chlorine release occurred at a chemical plant in Freeport, Brazoria County. In response, authorities issued a shelter-in-place order as a precautionary measure. They lifted it after the leak was stopped. Four workers at the plant were exposed to the chlorine spill and are under medical evaluation. One has been admitted to hospital. County and company officials are investigating the cause of the release. They have still to provide further details on the incident to the media.
