What happened

The state-run SANA news agency, quoting a local security source, reported that at least three people were killed in an explosion that hit a police station in the Deir ez-Zor countryside near the town of Al-Mayadeen in eastern Syria. Furthermore, multiple individuals sustained injuries as a result of the detonation. No additional details or information were disclosed. This incident occurred on the day that security forces killed three ISIL (ISIS) militants and arrested four others in Aleppo as part of government operations targeting ISIL sleeper cells operating in the city. In the previous months, Syrian authorities asserted that they had successfully thwarted a potential ISIL attack near the Sayeda Zeinab shrine, a significant pilgrimage site for Shiite Muslims located to the south of Damascus.
