What happened

In a recent development, law enforcement officials in Lakki Marwat successfully thwarted an abduction attempt by terrorist elements in the Landewa Gorabai area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, thereby rescuing three individuals. During the operation, two terrorists were killed and a police officer sustained minor injuries, according to a senior regional police officer (RPO). In the aftermath of the abduction attempt, the local police initiated a search operation, which culminated in a gunfight with the terrorists. Two of the individuals were fatally wounded in the confrontation, while three others sustained injuries and were subsequently relocated to the surrounding mountains by their associates. The three abducted civilians were subsequently released. The rescue operation is part of the recently increased counter-terrorism efforts by security forces in the face of rising militant attacks, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the end of the ceasefire with the government by the TTP in November 2022. However, data provided by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) indicates a substantial decline in both militant attacks and resulting casualties in April 2025 compared to March, signifying a notable enhancement in Pakistan’s internal security situation.
