Official reports from local law enforcement indicate that a member of the Peace Committee was killed during an armed conflict with Pakistani militants in the Begukhel area of Lakki Marwat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Approximately fifty militants initiated an assault on Begukhel village utilizing both light and heavy weaponry. This prompted a defensive response from the Peace Committee and local inhabitants, resulting in a two-hour exchange of fire during which the volunteer was killed. Police and security forces have initiated a search operation in the affected area, as stated by official sources. Preliminary assessments suggest the motivation for the attack was retaliation for a joint operation conducted by the police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) commandos against terrorists in the rural regions of the district. Since the early 2000s, Lakki Marwat has been a focal point of terrorist activities. Although operations aimed at enhancing security in the area have resulted in a period of relative calm, there has been a resurgence of militant activity in recent years. This has posed a threat to local peace initiatives and led to concerns about the potential for renewed unrest.
