What happened

More than 20 residents of Vallanadu Kasba village in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu have been affected by food poisoning. Eight individuals were allegedly admitted to the hospital for treatment after consuming contaminated water from the Thamirabarani River. As reported by district health authorities, the patients had been consuming the same river water previously used by others for bathing and defecation. In response, health officials inspected the village’s water supply and verified the quality of available foodstuffs. They also found that some patients had consumed leftover mutton cooked for the local temple festival. Concurrently, a medical team was deployed to the village to provide treatment to those affected. The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD) and local water sources have been supplying chlorinated drinking water to Vallanadu Kasba village, thereby ensuring the fundamental needs of the population are met.
